For those who are passionate about sewing and all things quilting...
New Pattern Release
I’m excited to show you my new quilt pattern. Since I was young I have been drawn towards ethnic and eastern designs, especially intricate mosaic tiles in places like Morocco and India. I used to make cards for the family from ink and wooden carved stamp blocks and would spend hours copying Arabic and Celtic designs. So it’s no surprise that this has filtered into my latest quilt design.
Tesserae Stars uses the Star Gazing 8 point star block in a generous sized bordered courtyard floor style pattern.
Here’s my original inspiration for the Star Gazing block, and colour scheme for Tesserae Stars.
The Moda Grunge fabrics work beautifully in creating an earthy tile texture, but the design would work well with rich patterned fabrics of a more limited palette too.
Fabric requirements for the quilt are 50cm of the 4 lighter toned fabrics, plus 50cm of white, 25cm each of the 4 dark fabrics plus 1m of border fabric, 50cm for binding.
Mystery Quilt Month 3
I can’t quite believe how the time has flown. We’re now into month 3 of the Mystery Quilt. This month the instructions are for some friendship stars, half square triangles and 4 patch combination units. You can see below my 2 colourways.
The left hand image shows the original blocks that match the colours in the pattern, for which the quilt top is all assembled and sewn up.
The right hand image is the flannel fabric version that I am making just a week or so ahead of everyone else to test out the pattern instructions one final time. I haven’t yet seen this one assembled and can’t wait to see how it looks. I might try it out this weekend!
You can still sign up to join in. Each month’s instructions won’t take too much commitment in time so you could easily catch up in one good sewing weekend. The pattern is available as a pdf download until the end of March.
For all those taking part I am working on a free bonus pattern for anyone that shares ‘in progress’ or finished quilt top photographs which I can use in future advertising. They can be shared via my social media accounts or sent to me by email.
As always please continue to share any of your Half Star Quilt makes to my social media accounts - link icons below ♥
